Julie Simon has been an American Sign Language/English Interpreter for
over 28 years, and an interpreter educator for over 21 years. She has
taught in both pre-service (academic) settings and in-service settings,
on topics including ethics and decision making, process of interpreting,
ASL-to-English and English-to-ASL interpreting, consecutive interpreting, transliteration, fingerspelling,
team interpreting, text translation, mentoring, platform interpreting, and NIC certification preparation. She holds certification
from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (CI & CT) and has served
on the Board of the Conference of Interpreter Trainers and as a member of the RID Affiliate Chapter Relations Committee. She currently serves on the Editorial Board of the CIT International Journal of Interpreter Education. Julie received
her doctorate from the University of Arizona in Language, Reading and
Culture, and her masters from Boston University in Deaf Education/ASL
Studies. Prior to opening The Language Door, Julie served for over 11
years as Administrator for the Western Region (formerly Region X) Interpreter
Education Center at Western Oregon University.
